“That’s enough”: Majorca tour operators agree. Stricter measures are needed against so-called “drinking vacationers”.
Restaurant owners, hoteliers and club operators in Mallorca have urgently demanded stricter measures against so-called “drinking vacationers”. The situation in the German holiday resort of Playa de Palma is now “alarming” and “unsustainable”, assured the most important business associations in this area of the Spanish holiday island in a joint statement released this Wednesday night. “That’s enough” it says in the “urgent appeal” to the authorities.
The hoteliers’ association AHPP, the gastronomy association CAEB and the club association ABONE complain that many tourists are increasingly tarnishing the image of Playa de Palma with their bad behavior. They are demanding drastic measures from the authorities responsible for the “Ballermann”, such as those introduced by the Dutch metropolis of Amsterdam. Street fines would have to be paid immediately on the spot, it is said.
Entrepreneurs warn that the situation could get worse in the future if the “vacation drinkers” don’t stop soon. “Not only the present, but also the future of this important tourist area” is at risk if there is not soon, among other things, a stronger police presence and more controls. (APA/DPA)
