Mamonas Assassinas has the biggest national film premiere since the pandemic

Mamonas Assassinas: The Movie, the story of the band from Guarulhos that enjoyed meteoric success in the 1990s, premiered last Thursday (December 28) in the largest national cinema in history in terms of the number of cinemas, with 1054 screens and 695 cinemas, resulting in the largest opening of a Brazilian film since the start of the Covid19 pandemic in 2020.

According to Sinny Assessoria, a company specializing in cinema and culture, the production was also the thirdlargest Thursday opening in the country in the last five years.

The script for the plot is by Carlos Lombardi (known for works such as Quatro por Quatro, Quinto dos Infernos) and tells the story of Dinho (Ruy Brissac), Júlio (Robson Lima), Bento (Alberto Hinoto) and Sérgio (Rhener). Freitas) and Samuel (Adriano Tunes), before they became Mamonas Assassinas, since then they were still the band Utopia, which existed between 1989 and 1994.

Mamonas Assassinas: The Film is directed by Edson Spinello, produced by Total Entertainment, coproduced by Mamonas Produções and Claro and distributed by Imagem Films. The film promises to delight the entire country with the classics Pelados em Santos, Robocob Gay, ViraVira and so many other hits that were meteoric successes in Brazil.

Mamonas Assassinas wanted to be a progressive rock band and became the irreverent and eccentric group that is still a representative of pop culture in Brazil today. The band, initially discredited by the general public, gained notoriety in the 1990s through the originality of their lyrics, their performance on stage and the musical quality of their members.

His first and only album was mixed in Los Angeles, USA, in the best studio at the time and sold more than 3 million copies in 7 months. With their meteoric success, Mamonas began appearing on television shows and conquered the country with their irreverence and good humor. 27 years after the quintet's tragic death in a plane crash in the Serra da Cantareira inland São Paulo, the group is still alive in the memories of many Brazilians.
