Man found dead at home with 60 venomous snakes and an alligator

An unusual phone call Tuesday led police to a home with more than 150 reptiles in Aliquippa, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh in the United States. According to CBS News Pittsburgh, the team at the scene found a dead 23yearold man and a threeyearold girl lying in a high chair next to a venomous snake. Among the animals that were in the residence were 60 poisonous snakes and an alligator. The cause of death of the victim is not yet clear.

“There was a snake in there, a rattlesnake in there, black mambas,” said Jim Bologna, a code enforcement officer.

“Nobody should have that many venomous snakes anywhere,” said Valerie McDermott, a city resident. “They must be destroyed.”

The Secretariat for Children, Youth and Family was activated.

According to CBS News Pittsburgh, the people who lived in the house would sell the animals. “These people have a business that they run,” Bologna said. “They sell reptiles, poisonous and nonpoisonous. They only moved here about two months ago.”

The reptiles were taken to an exotic pet store in Ambridge that works with the Beaver County Humane Society.

People who rented the house in Aliquippa were allowed to stay, but they were breaking city ordinances and could be fined.

The owner was wanted but not reported.
