A 30-year-old man died at Salt Lake City International Airport after entering the airport's de-icing platform and crawling into a plane engine, authorities said Tuesday.

The initial investigation began at 9:52 a.m. Monday when a branch manager at the airport reported a disturbance with a passenger on the secured side of the terminal, Salt Lake City police said.

Investigators determined that the man had left the airport apron area through an emergency exit door.

At about 10:10 a.m., police and airport workers found the man unconscious in a wing engine of an occupied airliner on the de-icing platform, the department said. The aircraft's engines were not running at the time.
