Man found dead in his hotel room after being bitten by a violin spider

The gist Earlier this week, a Greek trader was found dead in his hotel room in Italy. He had been bitten by a violin spider a few hours earlier.

During the night from Monday June 12 to Tuesday June 13, a Greek trader died in the bed of his hotel room in Sabaudia, Italy, where he was staying with colleagues on a business trip, reports Il Messaggero. The 58-year-old man reportedly succumbed to anaphylactic shock caused by a spider bite.

On Monday he spent the day at a farm in the countryside specializing in the production of kiwifruit. Back at the hotel, the man complained of itching from a spider bite and even felt unwell.

The next morning, concerned that he would not come down for breakfast, his colleagues knocked on his bedroom door with no response. The hotel staff eventually broke down the door and discovered the unconscious man. Despite the intervention of the rescue workers, his life could not be saved. “We are very shocked by what happened,” the hotel manager replied. “Unfortunately, even the use of the defibrillator could not prevent this tragedy.”

According to initial police investigations, a violin spider bite could have triggered this deadly reaction.
