According to English media reports, a passenger died on board an Airbus A321neo operated by Jet2 airline, requiring the flight to be rerouted.
The man was found dead in one of the plane's toilets last Tuesday, January 2, after another traveler noticed the door had been locked for a long time and alerted the crew.
Flight LS918, operated with A321neo registration GSUNB, which departed from the Spanish island of Tenerife and was scheduled to land in Manchester, England, was diverted to land in Cork, Ireland approximately three hours after takeoff.
One passenger reported that everyone on board was “very upset” about the devastating incident and accused the crew of “contempt.” In an interview with the Mirror, she said: “My husband reported that someone had been in the toilet for a long time and thought he was dead.” He informed the crew, who ignored him. Tragically, he was right. When such an event occurs, bathrooms should be checked more regularly. If they had been, perhaps the poor man could have been saved. I heard he traveled alone.”
A spokesperson for the airline told The Independent: “Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester was diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday January 2nd due to a customer requiring medical attention.” Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer has sadly passed away, despite the best efforts of our highly qualified team who intervened immediately upon becoming aware of it. This was an extremely difficult situation for our crew and we would like to thank them for their efforts. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”
