Man is shot by an arrow and dies on the day his son is born

A Peruvian man celebrating the birth of his son died after being shot with arrows by a neighbor in the Italian city of Genoa. The motive for the crime may have been the noise made by the victim. The case occurred on Wednesday (2).

Javier Romero Miranda, 41, was out with friends on Tuesday (1) to celebrate the birth of his son and to watch the Champions League game between Liverpool and Napoli. The confusion arose when they returned home and were intercepted by Evaristo Scalco, 63.

Witnesses claim the elderly man racially insulted the victim. In the statement to police, Evaristo said he watched the group through the window and noticed people urinating. “I yelled at them but they ignored me. I took the bow and shot, but I didn’t want to kill anyone.”

Despite claiming that he had no intention of killing Javier, the old man hit the victim in the torso with a steeltipped arrow typically used to kill wild boar. After arresting the elderly man, police found about 60 arrows and three bows in Evaristo’s home.

Construction worker Javier was taken to hospital with a perforated liver but died hours later during surgery. He lived in Italy for about 20 years.

A video with sensitive images shows the moment when Javier, crying and arrow in hand, speaks on the phone. “What the hell did you do to me? My God,” says the victim. Noticing the confusion, another neighbor goes out into the street and asks, “What happened?”. Javier replies, “He shot me with an arrow.”

Evaristo was arrested and is charged with manslaughter.
