A 6yearold boy was murdered and his mother seriously injured after she was attacked by a man on the outskirts of the city Chicagous US. Authorities classified the incident, which occurred last weekend, as a hate crime because the victims were Muslims and the perpetrator claimed he was acting in response to the war between them Israel and the terrorist group Hamas. The 71yearold man has been charged with various crimes, including murder and hate crimes, the Will County Sheriff’s Office detailed in a statement posted on Facebook. According to the note, the boy was stabbed 26 times in the body with a 30centimeter military knife. The minor was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died. The mother suffered more than a dozen stab wounds to her body and is recovering in the hospital.
The perpetrator, identified by authorities as Joseph M. Czuba, refused to provide investigators with information about the motive for his actions. However, the sheriff’s office concluded that he had targeted the victims because of their Muslim religion and because of the war raging in the Gaza Strip between Israel and Palestinian militias, particularly the Islamist fundamentalist group Hamas. The perpetrator of the attack was the owner of the home the family was renting, the sheriff’s office said. The Council on AmericanIslamic Relations (CAIR), which works to defend Muslim rights in the US, condemned the attack, calling it its “worst nightmare.” “Our hearts are heavy and our prayers are with the boy and his mother,” Ahmed Rehab, director of CAIR Chicago, said in a statement. The crime came at a time when American authorities were wary of the possibility that violence in Israel and Gaza could lead to actions against the Jewish or Muslim communities in the United States.
