Man seriously injured by gunshot in Montreal-North –

A man was seriously injured by gunfire in the Montreal-North district on Wednesday evening.

According to initial information available, the man was seriously injured with a firearm before 10.30pm at the Rue de Charny/Avenue PM-Favier intersection, while a second victim was also injured, albeit less seriously.

The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said the seriously injured man would remain in the hospital in critical condition.

At the same time, in the Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles district, on the corner of the boulevards Maurice-Duplessis and Rudolphe-Forget, several shots were fired almost simultaneously.

The shots could possibly have come from a moving vehicle, officer Caroline Chèvrefils said, adding that no casualty was found immediately.

This new episode of armed violence takes place in a particular context in the metropolis.

To date, 18 murders have been committed on SPVM territory, but five of them in just under two weeks.

On Monday, the body of Richard Lizotte, a 58-year-old man, was discovered by garbage collectors in a green bin in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.

Last week, three people – two in Montreal and one in Laval – fell victim to bullets from a serial killer who was eventually killed by police.

Finally, on the night of July 27-28, two young men aged 18 and 20 died after being targeted in the Pointe-Saint-Charles area.
