Man Suspected of Possibly Armed: Barricaded Detention Occurred in Downtown Drummondville – VINGT 55 Web Media

A search operation and barricaded detention took place in downtown Drummondville after information indicated that a man, possibly armed or in possession of a suspicious item, was walking in downtown Drummondville in the middle of the afternoon.

At around 2:30 p.m., citizens reported seeing a person who appeared to be carrying a rifle butt, explains Louis-Philippe Rueil, spokesman for the SQ, in an interview with Vingt55.

Authorities responded quickly to ensure the safety of citizens by implementing preventative containment measures in a portion of downtown Drummondville. This approach is confirmed by both the authorities present on site and students at Ellis College. The barricaded stay of children at a local daycare and students at Ellis College was lifted around 3:30 p.m. While in custody, special security measures were in place at the Drummondville Courthouse to ensure the safety of staff.

The police have launched a search operation in the area, which also included concrete measures, adds the spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.

Louis-Philippe Rueil, spokesman for the SQ, says no direct threat has been reported. Although authorities have a description of the person, the search effort was unable to locate the person matching that description.

The spokesperson for Sûreté du Québec stressed the importance of exercising caution in such situations and urged anyone with relevant information to contact police. “The investigation continues, the situation continues to be examined to confirm the information received,” specifies the spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). »
