Famous Puerto Rican musician and drummer José Manuel Hidalgo Maysonet, known professionally as “Mañengue,” was found dead in a nursing home in Culebra this morning.
“Mañengue” was born on December 12, 1944 in San Juan and died at the age of 79, as musical director and trumpeter Humberto Ramírez, spokesman for the family, confirmed to Primera Hora.
“Mañengue” is the father of the also virtuoso Puerto Rican percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo Yournet. It was stated that Hidalgo Maysonet had lived on the island community of Culebra for several years.
Ramírez, in turn, pointed out that Giovanni Hidalgo, after a conversation with his childhood friend, told him that the funeral would take place this week, along with the wake, at the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture in San Juan. Ramírez said details and a schedule for the funeral would be announced soon.
He stated that the family wants “Mañengue” to be buried in San Juan.
