Maneskin Victoria turns 22 her birthday in Rome At 14

Maneskin, Victoria turns 22: her birthday in Rome. “At 14 I felt broken, music saved me”

He arranged everything between the various commitments of the busy calendar he shared with the band’s other members, Damiano David, Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio, before leaving for Verona – where they will be giving their first real concert at the Arena tonight come together Italy after two and a half years, as well as the first after Sanremo, Eurovision, success on a world scale – they decided to spend a few hours in Rome, their city. He called his old friends, arranged to meet them at a specially rented bar, and waited with them until midnight before uncorking a bottle of bubbly to toast.

Like this Victoria De Angelisthe charming and sensual bass player from mane skin, tonight celebrated its 22nd anniversary and awaited the concert event at the Arena di Verona, one of the few opportunities to see the Maneskin in action on the Italian stages from now until the end of the year (they will return to our country, what is even them, even if Damiano and his companions are now perceived and considered as international stars, already on June 23rd for a date at the Teghil Stadium in Lignano Sabbiadoro and on July 9th for the mega show at the Circus Maximus in Rome sold out with 70,000 tickets sold). Compared to Damiano, the group’s lead singer, Victoria’s personality has only really emerged in recent months. Thanks to his passionate and fascinating way of playing the bass, both on stage and in the videos recorded with his cell phone in the bedroom and shared on his Instagram stories (his account has 3.5 million followers), and also thanks her fierce style, which she flaunts when she stays on stage in her underwear and bra, like at Coachella, or when she posts topless photos on social media: “A model? I would feel arrogant. I’m trying to do mine and I hope to send positive messages that way,” the bassist said of herself in the interviews granted over the past few months.

Victoria, the true leader

Sources close to the band portray her as the true leader of Maneskin: nobody moves a finger without her approval. On the other hand, the facts speak for themselves: it was she who founded the group together with guitarist Thomas Raggi in 2015 when she was at school. She chose the name Maneskin, which means “moonlight” in Danish, the native language (who disappeared due to illness when Victoria was very young). It was she who gave Damiano a second chance after kicking him out of a previous band: it was too pop, while Victoria wanted to play metal music, hard, edgy, edgy. She remembers her youth: “When I was 14, I didn’t want to leave the house anymore, I missed a school year. There was something broken in me.’ What saved her, she revealed, was therapy. And the music: «I suffered from certain rigid distinctions between male and female: At the age of six, as a child, I really rejected everything: I skated, I wore my hair short, I dressed like a boy. I didn’t wear skirts, not because I didn’t like them, but to regain the chance to be myself. Rock embodied this impulse of freedom ». There’s another video on YouTube his dad recorded thirteen years ago of a Baby Vic – as her bandmates call her – trying to remake the famous riff of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.”

His models

He cites Kim Gordon, the iconic bassist of New York alternative band Sonic Youth, as a point of reference: “In those years, rock was a man’s world, she always cared, she messed up every stereotype of beauty in her own way to be on stage , had something aggressive, rough, but he conquered thousands of people through his instrument,” he said of the musician. Past gossip has credited her with flirting with Damiano herself: “Who knows,” she limited herself to replying. However, he revealed that he had an affair with a famous colleague, but did not name names, and also with girls. Speaking of her irrational femininity, she says: “Makeup and clothes help me feel better and cooler, but I have periods when I’d like to wear a jumpsuit and that’s it. In these cases, I try to give myself strength, remembering that you can still have a nice day without make-up and with messy hair. It’s very difficult in this profession to go on stage and show your work to millions of people, what you are, what you want to say. There is a tendency to strongly sexualize artists: one says that one is good, not that she is good ».
