During Saturday night, strangers threw two manhole covers off a motorway bridge in the German state of Lower Saxony. One of them broke the windshield of a car on the A7 near Hildesheim and seriously injured the 52-year-old driver and his life-threatening 43-year-old passenger, police said on Saturday. The second manhole cover fell in the opposite lane and damaged at least four vehicles.

Both lanes of the A7 have been temporarily closed between Hildesheim-Drispenstedt and the Hannover-Süd motorway junction. The police are investigating at full speed, he said.
