The Philippines today summoned the Chinese ambassador to a formal protest following two collisions between ships from Manila and Beijing in the disputed waters of the South China Sea around Second Thomas Shoal. “We are making full use of all diplomatic processes at our disposal, including the summoning of the Chinese ambassador that we carried out this morning,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Teresita Daza said, according to local media. The parties have raised allegations of “provocative, irresponsible and illegal” actions that could lead to escalating tensions.
