Manslaughter: Charged with fatal neighbor harassment

SALABERRY DE VALLEYFIELD | The trial of a man accused of killing his neighbor following tensions caused by a loud party in the summer of 2020 begins today in Valleyfield, Montérégie.

More than two years after the tragedy, Deyver Andres Aguilar Céspedes, 41, must now face trial.

He is charged with manslaughter for causing the death of Maxime Bélanger, 39, his backyard neighbor, on June 21, 2020.

That evening, the dental assistant would have thrown a party with a dozen people in his courtyard on rue Caron, in a quiet neighborhood of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Music and noise could have been heard for about twelve hours.

At one point, Mr Bélanger, a bricklayer by trade and ex-soldier who lived on rue Valois, is said to have jumped over the fence angrily, sparking what could have become very banal but would quickly turn deadly.

Mr Bélanger was allegedly stabbed with a knife and hit with a baseball bat a few meters from the fence.

At around 10:30 p.m., Sûreté du Québec police officers were called to quickly intervene to end an altercation between two men.
