“Pulling out your speakers and playing heavy metal is not in itself violent. But does that show intolerance? “Questioned me by Vincent Paquet, who defends Deyver Andres Aguilar Céspedes, who is charged with manslaughter.

The attorney filed a motion Friday to provide evidence that the victim had a history of misbehaving in the neighborhood.

On the evening of June 21, 2020, Aguilar Céspedes allegedly caused the death of Maxime-Alexandre Bélanger, 39. The 41-year-old had invited relatives to his farm for Father’s Day in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Enraged, his neighbor jumped the fence before being stabbed. There has been tension between them since 2016 over the noise.

Compete with the noise

The defense mentioned other incidents, including once that Mr. Bélanger allegedly pulled out a speaker to compete with the defendant’s loud music.

“It shows a tendency to interact with the neighborhood when elements don’t suit it,” Me Paquet pointed out.

“Everyone sees a little bit of where this is all going,” he continued, referring to self-defense. Of course, Mr Aguilar’s justification will be debatable. »

Crown Prosecutor Karim Ainmelk “did not see the relevance at all” of this motion, which was being advised by Judge Bertrand St-Arnaud.
