Killing of the Flower Moon, a powerful film released this fall, received rave reviews from the cinema world and audiences. But behind the harshness of the feature film there is a true story that everyone forgets.
DiCaprio and De Niro face to face
Based on the book “The American Note” by David Grana, “Killing of the Flower Moon” is Martin Scorsese’s latest film. To tell this story, the famous Italian-American director surrounded himself with his two most loyal actors: Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. The action of the feature film takes place in the 1920s, at a time when the Osage Indians benefited from the discovery of an oil deposit on their territory. Thanks to this extraordinary monetary gain, the Osage bought cars, built mansions and sent their children to private schools. For these people who were expelled from the Ohio and Mississippi valleys and forced to settle in Oklahoma, this is a just return from fate. They begin leasing this land to developers, but the lure of profit attracts speculators who have no use for the Osage. One of them will have a great influence on these courageous people: William King Hale.
William King Hale, played by the fearsome Robert De Niro, hatches a vile plan to take over the country, even if it means taking out everyone who gets in his way. In his terrible plan, Hale wants to manipulate his nephew Ernest Burkhart in order to get closer to the women of the Osage tribe. When the young man finally became a taxi driver, he met a woman named Mollie. As the trailer shows, Hale doesn’t shy away from anything and the film is partly based on this macabre scenario. But the terrible thing is that it’s based on a true story. All the main characters really existed!
The greed of men
As we delve into the events of American history, we discover that the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigations) has been investigating a case of murders of Osage Indians. The investigation led the investigators on the trail of the “King of Cattle”, a certain William Hale. The sad man, who spent more than twenty years in prison for his infamous actions, encouraged his nephew Ernest Burkhart to marry a woman from the Osage tribe, Mollie Kyle. His goal was to get to the region’s oil wells, so he acted like a mafia boss by bribing and intimidating certain people to do the dirty work. The FBI discovered that William Hale was behind…24 murders. The film returns to this crazy story and we discover that Hale may have committed even more deaths. Killing of the Flower Moon is being shown in theaters and will soon be released on Apple TV.
