Israel has focused its offensive on the southern Gaza Strip over the past two weeks. It is the area where, according to the Israeli army, the population of the north had to go to evacuate Gaza City and its surroundings. The bombings in recent days have focused on Khan Yunis, the second largest city, which has been overwhelmed by an influx of people from the north for weeks: it is now estimated to be home to more than double its actual population.
Satellite images allow us to observe the extent of the destruction in the Khan Yunis area. Earth movements caused by shelling or the trajectories of Israeli attacks are clearly visible from the sky. According to academic researchers Corey Scher and Jamon Van Den Hoek, there are at least 2.75 square kilometers of new destroyed areas (i.e. areas that were not damaged before October 7) in Khan Yunis. It would be an area larger than Gaza City.

Wednesday, November 15th
All but one of the hospitals in northern Gaza are out of service due to the Israeli military offensive. The only one that works, Al Ahli, is trying to help about 500 patients. Meanwhile, Israeli troops claimed on Wednesday that they had entered Al Shifa, the largest medical center in the Gaza Strip. At least 650 patients there would be in an extremely fragile situation: “It was three days without electricity, water and a very poor internet connection, which severely affected our ability to provide basic medical care.” “The constant shooting and bombing has affected the already critical Conditions are even worse,” warned World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The remaining centers are out of operation due to a lack of electricity, medical supplies, oxygen, food and water, as well as bombings and clashes in surrounding areas, according to a report by the UN Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Office.
Friday, November 10th
The Israeli army claimed this week it had reached “the heart” of Gaza City. Troops not only bomb this part of the Gaza Strip daily, but have also advanced from the center and north.
As can be seen in the map above, they are already attacking Hamas in a very limited area: several OSINT experts have located the entrances to the Hamas tunnel network reported by the Israeli Defense Forces and images of these militiamen directly attacking enemy tanks.
Tuesday, November 7th
It has been a month since a group of Hamas militants invaded Israel and killed hundreds of civilians. After 30 days of the Israeli army's siege of Gaza, it is difficult to find a current conflict that has resulted in similar deaths or destroyed buildings in such a short period of time.
There are already more than 10,000 deaths in Gaza, according to Health Ministry figures, which are also used by the United Nations. The speed with which they have accumulated cannot be compared to the conflict in Eastern Europe. Remember that you can leave Ukraine: in the first week alone, about a million people left the country. In Gaza, residents are not allowed to leave the strip.
Saturday November 4th
In recent days, Israeli attacks have affected numerous civilian infrastructures in the Gaza Strip. At least 15 people died in a bomb attack on an ambulance convoy near Shifa Hospital on Friday afternoon. Another attack this Saturday left more than a dozen people dead and at least 50 injured at a UN school in the Yabalia refugee camp, which had already been hit several times this week.
Friday, November 3rd
The Israeli army claims to have surrounded Gaza City and has several areas of the city under its control. The latest information from the Center for the Study of War (ISW) suggests that hand-to-hand fighting occurred between the buildings (many of them were destroyed by bombing). In the last two days, Israel has launched air strikes at at least two refugee camps in the northern strip.

Jabalia, the largest refugee camp in northern Gaza, suffered two Israeli bombings within 24 hours, killing dozens. In the image below you can see the rocket impact and below the same area a few days earlier.

In the first days of the war, a mosque in another refugee camp near Gaza City (Shati) was hit by Israeli shells.
Tuesday, October 31st
Israeli incursions into northern Gaza have intensified since last weekend, with Israeli tanks cutting off Gaza's main road, a day after the UN warned that airstrikes had hit near three of Gaza City's main hospitals.

The Israeli air offensive in the Gaza Strip leaves a trail of destruction affecting numerous buildings in the Gaza Strip where civilians lived.
Thursday, October 26th
With infantry and tank units marching through the north of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army carried out its largest ground attack in Gaza since the start of the war. The military leadership warned that it was a preparatory operation for a later large-scale invasion and that it would not be the only one.
Wednesday, October 25th
In the three weeks since the Islamist militia Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 – and that country bombed the Gaza Strip in retaliation – at least 2,360 boys and girls have died from Israeli bombs, according to Gaza Health Ministry data from Tuesday. In 18 days, the total number of children killed in Gaza in the last 23 years was exceeded.

The Israeli army's airstrikes on the Gaza Strip have intensified over the past day. According to the Palestinian authorities, Gaza is experiencing the bloodiest day of the war with more than 700 deaths.
Monday, October 23rd
There were violent demonstrations across the Middle East. Clashes have intensified on the border between Israel and Lebanon, with exchanges of fire between soldiers of the Jewish state and members of Hezbollah; in the West Bank, where demonstrations were violently suppressed by Israeli forces; and in neighboring Syria, with Israeli air strikes on two airports in that country.
Sunday, October 22nd
After 15 days of war, the United Nations estimates there are one million internally displaced people in the Gaza Strip. At least 600,000 of them have moved south, overwhelming cities like Khan Yunis, whose population has doubled. Some of the densest areas of this city, which was home to 270 people per hectare before the conflict, are now home to up to 540. The main road that runs through Gaza is not always a safe transit point.

The constant Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, amounting to hundreds per day, have caused Gaza's civilian population to leave their homes and seek refuge in buildings managed by international organizations, such as schools managed by the United Nations become.
The satellite images above show the locations of three of these schools along the Strip. The shelters are located both in the north of the area Israel wanted to evacuate and in the south, where the photo below was taken.

Thursday, October 19th
Egypt has started repairing the Rafah border road linking the Sinai Peninsula with the Gaza Strip after announcing the opening of the crossing to allow humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave. This border crossing is the only funnel through which aid will flow, given the blockade imposed by Israel following Hamas' surprise attack on October 7.
This Thursday, more than a hundred trucks loaded with humanitarian aid waited for the gate to be opened and the road on the Palestinian side, which had been damaged by at least four Israeli bombings in recent days, to be repaired. Even more vehicles are waiting in the Egyptian city of Al Arish.
Many of the trucks waiting in the parking lot on the Egyptian side will still have to wait as the agreement with the US only calls for an initial convoy of 20 trucks following Israel's approval. A large proportion of the more than two million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip were already dependent on humanitarian aid before the war broke out: according to United Nations estimates, almost a hundred trucks brought humanitarian aid to Gaza every day.
Wednesday, October 18th
An explosion on Tuesday evening at Al-Ahli Al-Arabi Hospital in Gaza City has sparked a clash of accusations between both sides. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israeli spokesmen blamed Islamic Jihad for firing a failed rocket that landed outside the health center, killing at least 500 people. Hamas, in turn, accused Israeli forces of carrying out the airstrike that caused the hospital massacre.
Tuesday, October 17th
The escalation of tensions with Hezbollah in Lebanon on its northern border is leading Israel to evacuate communities less than two kilometers from the border with the neighboring country. Meanwhile, in Gaza, a million people have left their homes in the north of the strip, the area Israel wants to attack hardest. It is not clear whether the Rafah border crossing will be reopened, although part of the international community is mobilizing to at least bring in humanitarian aid.
Monday, October 16th
In 10 days of the offensive, the death toll exceeds that of the last 15 years. In addition, according to the local Ministry of Health, there were 10,850 injured in the Gaza bombings. The number of internally displaced people in the Gaza Strip continues to grow: More than 600,000 people, i.e. one in four residents of the Gaza Strip, have fled their homes in search of a safe place in the south of the country.

The UN refugee agency says for the first time it cannot guarantee the safety of its schools and hospitals, where Gazans are crowding to flee their homes: Gaza is facing a human catastrophe.
Saturday, October 14th
The international community has taken a position on the escalation of violence in the region: the Western and Pacific democracies are the core of support for the Jewish state. As with the invasion of Ukraine, the new war intensifies the confrontation between this bloc and actors such as Iran, Russia, China and Turkey.
Friday, October 13th
The Israeli army orders the evacuation of more than a million residents in the Gaza Strip to the south within 24 hours. All border crossings with Israel are closed and supplies of electricity, gas, water, food, medicine and fuel are interrupted. The only access point to the enclave is the Rafah border crossing in the south of the strip, a small piece of infrastructure linked to Egypt's Sinai Desert but which was closed after Israeli bombings.
Wednesday, October 11th
The escalation of war events on the border with Lebanon threatens to open a new front against the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia. The deaths of a dozen soldiers make the day the bloodiest since the end of the war in the summer of 2006. Since then, 10,800 soldiers from 40 countries in the international intervention force have been stationed at the border, including 600 Spaniards.
Tuesday, October 10th
More than 1,000 deaths were registered in the first three days of the war. The Israeli army is attacking Gaza hard: it claims to have hit more than 1,200 “targets” between Saturday and Monday alone and promises to “double” this number in the next 24 hours. Hamas is estimated to be holding at least 150 hostages captured during the raid in the Gaza Strip, where residents face a blockade of goods and services and cannot travel freely in or out.
Sunday, October 8th
The Hamas offensive is also surprising in its scale: more than 5,000 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip over the weekend. The map below shows the locations of unusual heat (caused primarily by explosions) detected by Sentinel II, the European Space Agency mission that was flying over the area at the time.
Saturday, October 7th
At around 6:30 a.m., Hamas militias invaded Israeli territory by land, sea and air. They penetrate up to 20 kilometers from the Gaza Strip. The initial lack of a counteroffensive makes it easier for them to take prisoners and kill hundreds of civilians on the kibbutzim.
The Tribe of Nova music festival was held at Kibbutz Reim, where militiamen entered and killed at least 260 people.
