Marc-André Fleury was benched the day before for an important matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins and delivered one of his best performances of the season on Tuesday night, blocking 40 shots in a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild against the Bruins Boston.
In the City of Steel, where Fleury experienced the best moments of his career, head coach John Hynes preferred to send Filip Gustavsson into the game and could not prevent the Pens from winning 4-3.
The Quebec goalkeeper may have missed his last meeting in Pittsburgh, but he took personal revenge. The Bruins knocked on the door repeatedly, with David Pastrnak scoring twice, except Fleury limited the damage while his teammates lived up to their end of the bargain.
Kirill Kaprizov scored twice and ended the debate in extra time. Marcus Johansson and Ryan Hartman also defeated Linus Ullmark.
With 549 career wins, Fleury is just two wins away from tying Patrick Roy for second place among all-time goaltenders.
The Wild face the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center.
Svechnikov is back
In Raleigh, Andrei Svechnikov scored a comeback goal for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 6-3 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Russian striker was sidelined with an upper body injury, leading the team's fans to fear the worst. He had already missed most of October to fully recover from knee surgery.
Svechnikov broke the ice with a wrist shot on the power play in the first period. William Carrier then equalized with the first of his two goals, but the Canes responded with five goals in a row.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored a very special goal in the middle period. The striker attempted a shot that hit the leg of his teammate Jaden Chatfield. While the defender remained on his knees, “KK” made up for it by thwarting Logan Thompson with his next throw.
Carolina ended a three-game losing streak. The Knights, meanwhile, have suffered defeats in two of their last three games.
