Quebec’s Marc-Antoine Dequoy is the only Montreal Alouettes player in the running for one of the year-end awards that reward the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) most deserving players.
The Marauder is the representative of the Eastern Section for the title of Most Outstanding Canadian in 2023: his opponent in the West Division is the running back of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Brady Oliveira. The latter is also in the running for the CFL MVP Award and will face Toronto Argonauts quarterback Chad Kelly.

Dequoy helped the Sparrows to an 11-7 mark this year. He ranked second in the rushing game with five interceptions, including two that were converted into touchdowns. The former Université de Montréal Carabins made 57 defensive tackles and five on special teams. His brilliance allowed him to cause three fumbles, recover two of them and thwart six passes.
For his part, Oliveira led the league with 1,534 rushing yards and 13 majors on offense. He surpassed 1,000 total rushing yards for the second consecutive year.
In addition, Montreal BC Lions lineman Mathieu Betts will compete against Argonauts cornerback Adarius Pickett for the title of best defensive player. Betts set a career-high 18 sacks and made 44 tackles on defense and two more on special teams.
Winners will be announced at the CFL Gala on November 16 in Niagara Falls.
