According to Charleroi Mayor Paul Magnette, at least 85 graves on the Jewish plot of Marcinelle Cemetery in Belgium were damaged. This was reported by the Belgian agency. According to Magnette, the location and the targeted graves leave little doubt that the damage is anti-Semitic in nature. The damage relates to the theft of the Stars of David attached to the graves, which was noticed by a cemetery guard. The city filed a police report and informed all families affected by the damage.
The perpetrators only devastated the Jewish area of the cemetery: the Stars of David were torn from the gravestones using burglary tools. No writings remained claiming responsibility.
In Belgium, anti-Semitic attacks have escalated since October 7, the day of the Hamas massacre in Israel.
