Marcos Malory and Yasmín Mejías awaken Christmas nostalgia in the diaspora

Nostalgia for the Puerto Rican Christmas season is one of the aspects that many people in the diaspora typically experience. The dynamics of family gatherings and the festive joy that characterizes our way of celebrating are some of the experiences they miss.

This reality inspired the Puerto Rican singer Marcos Malory to create the song “Who wants to trullar?”, a song that he promotes with the support of his wife, actress Yasmín Mejías. This intention touches her deeply, since after moving to Kissimmee, Florida in 2018, the couple had to adopt a different celebration ritual than in their home country.

“Many people think that those of us in the diaspora do not know what is happening in Puerto Rico and that is not true because because of the media on the different television channels and networks we are sometimes more aware of things on the island.”, Malory confessed. “The inspiration for this song came because Yasmín, my son Cristian and I made a song called Let’s go Party during the pandemic. Many people identified with the theme, saw it and wrote to us, and this year I made “Who wants to trullar?”, added the author and person responsible for the musical design.

In return, he thanked his compatriot José Nogueras for the support, who allowed him to include several lines from his hit Para saludarte in the song.

“He told me, ‘Take one of my songs and use it, you won’t have any problems with me,’ and that’s what it’s about, that nobility, that desire that everyone can get ahead,” said Marcos López Rivera, his real name. With a cheerful note, the single celebrates the tradition of enjoying typical dishes and the charm of a party.

Yasmín Mejías emphasized the desire to lift the spirits of those who listen to the song. “There are so many negative things happening… We wanted to keep a little of the Christmas spirit of joy and remember that Puerto Ricans abroad continue to celebrate Christmas as if we were in Puerto Rico because we take Christmas with us,” he said. .

The artist accompanies the singer in the music video. “We wanted to connect several Puerto Ricans who live in Florida, where we live, with Puerto Ricans from Puerto Rico. There’s Prodigio (Claudio), Roberto Vigoreaux, Eduardo Robles, Carlos Merced, and we missed people because he didn’t give us a break,” he said after listing several guests. His colleagues Víctor Alicea, Carmen Nydia Velázquez and Eyra Agüero participated in the visual clip remotely.

Malory shared that one of the most valuable benefits of the experience was the participation of the couple’s son, Cristian Emanuel. “The best thing for me is that I can have Yasmín and my son Cristian with me. “They are involved in the choruses, the video and the production.”

The artist, who celebrated for many years with her parents and siblings on Puerto Rican soil, had to adopt new routines. “We in Florida are basically always looking for a way to meet friends and family, because in Puerto Rico we met with family, at my house, at my mother’s house or at my brother’s house,” he reviewed. “When you live abroad, you connect with people you already know and others you know when you arrive, and a support network develops, and that is extended family.” So we do the same thing: we meet with friends and preparing traditional food at someone’s home.”

Malory showed that there is never a lack of enthusiasm. “They are celebrated with the same joy, with the same nostalgia,” explained the voice of the popular song La nena sexy.

He drinks his coffee

The couple also promotes their brand Café Altagracia, which they launched in July this year. The product contains a mix of Colombian, Brazilian and Ecuadorian grains. “It is a gourmet coffee,” specified Mejías. “There are three beans and it is a blend of Robusta and Arabica. It is not mixed with anything else. It’s a pretty strong coffee, but it has a very low acidity.” The product is available online at cafealtagracia.shop.

“It’s a coffee to try, for people who really like drinking coffee. Coffee has chocolate notes, this is not because it is mixed with chocolate, but because where the coffee is planted, the seed takes on these notes,” he explained.

The brand is divided into “Doña Yasmín Roast” and “Don Marcos Decaffeinated Roast”. “Marcos can’t drink caffeinated coffee because he’s very hyperactive, so he drinks it decaffeinated,” the artist confessed.

Malory explained that the Swiss water method is used to decaffeinate, so “it has the same taste, texture and all the elements as caffeinated coffee, but this process does not use any chemicals to extract the caffeine.”

The idea of launching the product arose as an alternative to the singer’s work restriction following his diagnosis of vestibular neuritis, an injury to the vestibular nerve that can cause imbalances and therefore disability.

“With the therapies, Marcos is functional, he walks, he leads, but he has days when the dizziness is so severe that he cannot work, he can no longer be as involved as before, who worked in a senior center and gave courses there at the university,” he explained. “He began to pray and asked the Lord for an idea that he could develop without having to spend many hours a day and he could work as best he could and the idea that God gave him was to make coffee “Sell,” Mejías confessed about the opportunity that motivated her to reinvent herself.

On the other hand, both affirmed the love that continues to bind them with the Puerto Rican public, which is why they host their space El Club de los Nocturnachados on Facebook every Wednesday at 10 p.m.
