Maria Carmem Barbosa dies at the age of 76 Splash

The author and screenwriter Maria Carmem Barbosa died today in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 76.

The information was confirmed by Maria Carmem’s nephew Thiago Barbosa and the actor and screenwriter Miguel Falabella, the author’s partner. According to Thiago, Maria Carmem was in the Casa de Saúde Pinheiro Machado hospital in Laranjeiras, south of Rio, for two months. She suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and suffered cardiac arrest this morning.

Maria Carmem was, alongside Miguel Falabella, the author of series such as “Sai de Baixo” and “Toma Lá, Dá Cá”. In collaboration with him she also wrote the soap operas “Salsa & Merengue” and “A Lua Me Disse”, all on TV Globo. His CV also includes the soap operas “Lua Cheia de Amor” and “Olho no Olho” as well as the series “Sandy & Junior” and “Delegacia de Mulheres”. She also wrote some episodes of “Armação Ilimitada”.
