She made the headlines with her protest: the German publishing group has now offered her a contract as a freelance correspondent. The controversy: ‘It has long been organic for Putin’s Russia to hire others’
The Russian dissident Marina Ovsyannikova will work as a correspondent from Moscow and Ukraine for the German daily newspaper “Die Welt”. The publisher announced it. In March, Ovsyannikova broke the news on her Canale One channel with an antiwar poster. She had been arrested and fined and her gesture of protest was all over the newspapers; she was offered asylum in France, but she refused: “I’m a patriot, I’ll stay in Russia.” He lost his job and says he “lives in fear”. Now Verlag der Welt has contracted her as a permanent employee for both the newspaper and its TV station.
“The world is showing that it supports what Ukrainians are defending with their lives today: freedom,” said Ovsyannikova. The head of the group, Ulf Porschardt, said: “Ovsyannikova defends a journalist’s most important values, professional ethics, against the threat of repression. However, other journalists emphasize that “she never risked her life in Putin’s Russia, but the world takes her (for example, the famous independent journalist Farida Rustamova on Twitter).
Dozens of independent Russian journalists are currently looking for a job in Europe. They are highly qualified and all have a good reputation. But it is Marina Ovsyannikova who gets a job at Die Welt. With all due respect, it was she who risked security while working in Putin’s SRussia

Marina Ovyannikova actually worked for Canale One for a long time, very close to the government, like most of the media that are still active. However, after the conflict erupted, he recently told RaiTre: «I had definitely decided that I would resign because my positions did not correspond to the editorial line. I wanted to protest in the square but I saw that people could not pull out the billboards because they were immediately arrested ».
