Resurfaced claims show that Marilyn Monroe may have heard the wedding bells ringing with this alleged former flame just 24 hours before her death. In Anthony Summers’ biography, titled GODDESS: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe, he interviewed over 600 people and insiders to get a deep dive into the Gentleman Prefer Blondes legend and the final days of her all-too-short life.

While fans have always pondered the details and circumstances of her final days on Earth, there’s one detail that so many people have overlooked: she reportedly told her longtime friend that she was marrying one of her alleged former flames.

Summers claims that the day before Monroe’s death, on Aug. 3, she called her longtime friend Anne Karger and told her she was “very much in love and would be marrying Bobby Kennedy,” according to Vanity Fair.

Now, this isn’t the only report of a phone call related to the day’s story. She reportedly called another friend named Robert Slatzer and informed him that she was having a hard time reaching Robert “Bobby” Kennedy and decided to call his brother-in-law, Peter Lawford, which Lawford later confirmed. At the same time, she claimed she would “be with him” soon.

For those who don’t know, rumors have been around for decades that Monroe was involved with both President John F. Kennedy and his younger brother Robert.

Rumors swirled about John after their legendary “Happy Birthday” performance, leading many to suspect he was having an affair with Monroe behind Jackie Kennedy’s back.

While the Robert rumors were mostly unfounded, a letter found at an auction in 2016 shed some light on the situation. The letter was reportedly from Jean Kennedy Smith and, according to the Telegraph to Monroe, read: “Understand you and Bobby are the new guy” and “We all think you should come with him when he comes back east”.

The story goes on

According to People, Lawford introduced the two to each other, which led to an affair in the summer of 1962.

Robert was married to Ethel Kennedy from 1950 until his death in 1968. Together they had 11 children.

Monroe died on August 4, 1962.
