Marina Sena performs “Dê um rolê”, a hit by Gal Costa, at The Town
It’s no use, Marina Sena from Minas Gerais is one of the biggest names in Brazilian music today. The singer took the stage at The Town this Sunday (10) with the greatest respect she has as a fan of Gal Costa to face the repertoire of the Bahian who died in November 2022.
She was moved and brought the audience to tears on the last day of the festival when she sang “Nada Mais”, “Dê um Rolê” and “Baby”.
Marina added her own musical identity to Gal’s repertoire. For example, in “Força Estranha” she played with her voice, which she also does in her own songs.

After the show, she paused to speak to the audience — anyone who’s been to a Marina show knows she loves to stop and talk — and spoke about her personal connections to Gal’s songs, which she sang as a child. He even quoted a conversation with Gal in which he said that they were both born on the exact same day, September 26th.
Marina Sena didn’t sing Gal Costa, she sang for Gal Costa as a fan.
“I’ve been singing to Gal Costa since I was born, it’s an honor to sing for her,” he said during the performance.
Marina rose to national fame last year with the hit “Por Supuesto” and released the album “Vício Inerente” this year.

The emotional audience shouted Gal’s name and Marina’s name several times. The girl from Minas Gerais even declared that the show of The Town was the most important of her life.
“Gal is the most important singer in my life, she was the one who got me out of the country, her art brought me a lot,” he said.
Before the performance ended with “Meu nome é Gal”, an audio recording of Tom Zé speaking about Gal in an interview in 1970 was shown. While singing the song, Marina made it a point to make it clear that her name is “Marina,” a big admirer of Gal.
Marina Sena can’t be expected to have the vocal range of Gal Costa, after all we’re talking Gal Costa, but there’s no denying that the artist has taken on the responsibility of paying homage to one of the biggest names in music history the world good.
