Maripier Morin and the lions den

Maripier Morin and the lion’s den

Since Friday we can see the trailer of the film Arlett, in which Maripier Morin plays the title role. This feature film tells the story of a fashion star catapulted into politics as Minister of Culture.

In the trailer, the character, played by Maripier Morin, says of the murderous world of politics: “Why do I feel like I’m squeaking in a lions’ den? “.

If it’s tough politics where knives fly low, it’s nothing besides the MMC (Wonderful World of Culture).

If politicians are lions, artists sometimes behave like vultures…

MORE THAN A “ST’ARLETTE”

I feel like this line sums up the concerns about the film’s release well: How will the “zartistes” community react to the “second chance” being given to Madame Morin? She is playing the role of her life.

When the film, directed by Mariloup Wolfe from a script by Marie Vien, hits theaters on August 5th, I hope the small cultural milieu will have the decency to judge Maripier Morin’s screen performance by… his screen performance.

When it was announced that Maripier Morin would be playing the title role in her film, director Mariloup Wolfe replied that the actress “had presented for an audition and her performance was remarkable”.

If an athlete has been the focus of a controversy, has behaved reprehensibly, but represents himself in a sporting competition after taking control of himself, we can evaluate his performance using objective criteria: did he score a goal? or not? Did he run fast enough, jump high enough, hit hard enough?

If only art were that easy.

On her Instagram account, where she shared beautiful shooting photos, Maripier Morin wrote: “I had the chance to give cinema legends the answer. Not less. […] I pinch myself again. »

In fact, in the film’s credits, we see the names of Gilbert Sicotte, Benoît Brière, David La Haye, Kathleen Fortin, Emmanuel Schwartz, Micheline Lanctôt, Paul Ahmarani, etc.

Do you think that all the actresses who have dreamed of playing the role of Arlette will examine Maripier Morin’s performance without a trace of jealousy or envy? That the friends in the community who signaled their virtue at a time when Maripier Morin was the target of devastating accusations and reports will put aside their “prejudices” and their “unconscious biases” and show “inclusion and “justice”?

And the public, he? To use a phrase we’ve heard a lot over the past week, I’m convinced it’s “out there.”

Maripier Morin has acknowledged his mistakes, acknowledged his addiction, launched a “Grains of Hope” project that has just donated $60,000 to three direct aid organizations (the Maisons Péladeau, the Pavillons du nouveau point de vue and the addiction treatment center Le smokers). .

A WORLD WITHOUT MERCY

Elsewhere in the trailer, Arlette’s character says, “If there’s one thing I’ve fixed in my life, it’s never trusting others.”

Let’s hope Maripier Morin got that right.
