Ruffalo and Renner first appeared together in a film in 2012 during the original Avengers film.

Since then they have appeared in several other superhero films including Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame.

Renner, 51, was in critical but stable condition in hospital after injuring himself while plowing snow outside his Lake Tahoe home on Tuesday morning.

The Hawkeye actor, who was alone at the time, was flown to hospital on Sunday after police were called to his country home.

The circumstances of the accident are still unclear, but police described it as a “weather-related” incident involving a snowplough. A winter storm in the region left 35,000 people without power amid heavy snowfall and wind.

“We can confirm that Jeremy is in critical but stable condition and has sustained injuries after a weather related accident while snow plowing earlier this morning.

“His family is with him and he is being given excellent care,” a spokesman said in a statement.

Renner tweeted in December about the massive snowfall at his US ranch, writing, “Snowfalls on Lake Tahoe are no joke.”

His home is in a remote mountainous area and he has shared numerous social media posts showing snow enveloping his cars and even reaching his first floor windows.

Fans have said they are praying for the two-time Oscar nominee, best known for playing Avenger Hawkeye in the Marvel Universe, Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy and William Brandt in the Mission Impossible films.

The actor has owned a home above Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe in Washoe County for several years.

It came as dozens of people were killed in snowstorm conditions across the US.

The Arctic blast kicked up high winds and snow, trapping some residents in their homes with snowdrifts and cutting off power to tens of thousands of homes and businesses.

The extent of the storm was nearly unprecedented, stretching from the Great Lakes near Canada down to the Rio Grande along the border with Mexico.
