Mark Zuckerberg joins Apple bashing: It’s ‘problematic for a company to control what kind of app experiences get onto a device’

Mark Zuckerberg has joined the Apple bashing party.

Just hours after Spotify Technology Inc. SPOT +5.75% Chief Executive Daniel Ek took to Twitter, accusing Apple of “giving itself every advantage while stifling innovation and hurting consumers,” it was Zuck’s turn.

“In a way, Apple has emerged as the only company trying to unilaterally control what apps get onto a device,” said Meta Platforms Inc. META, +7.89% CEO, at the New York Times Dealbook Summit in New York York on Wednesday. “I don’t think that’s a sustainable or good place.”

“It’s problematic for a company to control what kind of app experiences get onto a device,” added Zuckerberg.

Apple’s AAPL, +4.86% significant impact on the app market through its App Store, has this week to sharp remarks from Ek, Tesla Inc. TSLA, +7.67% CEO and Twitter owner Elon Musk, Epic Games Inc CEO Tim Sweeney and others led his onerous commission fees (up to 30%) and payment system in business.

Earlier in the day, Ek – who has called on Congress to vote on antitrust legislation after years of hearings against big tech – tweeted: “So how much longer are we going to sit around this threat to the future of the internet?” How many more consumers are denied the choice? There was a lot of talk. Talking helps, but we must act.”

Musk, who got into his digs for many of the same reasons, suggested in a meme this week that he was willing to “go to war” rather than pay Apple’s dues. But on Wednesday, Musk posted to Twitter a video of a brief scene from Apple’s campus in Cupertino, California, with a conciliatory message in which he thanked Apple CEO Tim Cook for showing him around.

Apple has held back on the sniping comments.
