Channel Nine has revealed the latest season of Married at First Sight narrowly averted disaster after a wedding dress caught fire during a wedding ceremony.

The incident, which was edited out before the episode aired, happened when American-born Alyssa Barmonde, 35, tied the knot with Duncan James, 36.

In a behind-the-scenes interview with 9Entertainment on Friday, Alyssa said the near disaster had just begun as she walked down the aisle.

The attractive blonde explained that her dress got too close to a heater and caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured as the flames were quickly extinguished.

Duncan, also interviewed by 9Entertainment, shared how he kept his cool as he alerted Alyssa to the danger

“I said, ‘Alyssa, you smoke!’ and she said, ‘Thanks!'” Duncan recalled.

‘I said… “No, you literally smoke.” Smoke was rising behind her!’

Reflecting on the chaos, Duncan paid tribute to his new bride: “Any woman who can handle this on her wedding day, kudos to her!”

Alyssa was later told the fiery wedding dress could bode well as she embarked on her romantic journey with Duncan.

“It was pretty sweet because my honorable man said my wedding dress was destroyed because it means I never have to have another one again!” she said.
