Martin Odegaard said it was a wonderful evening at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday as we beat Lens 6-0 to progress to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
“It was a wonderful evening at home to the Emirates in the Champions League,” he said. “There was a lot to play for and we started so strong, so it was a solid game from us.
“Honestly it was a bit crazy but we did so well. The intensity, the rhythm in which we played and what we did in the boxes was brilliant. We wanted to continue like that in the second half, but the game was a little different and it was a solid performance.
“We knew what today was about, so we did it and of course we are very happy now.”
After getting on the scoresheet, Odegaard handed our late penalty to Jorginho, meaning there were six different scorers.
“Yeah, I think it was good for him too. As you said, the scorers vary throughout the day, which is good for the team and good for confidence. I’m happy to see that.”
When asked how proud he was of captaining the team during our Premier League and Champions League seasons, Martin said: “Honestly, I couldn’t be prouder.
“It’s great to play for this club and of course to be captain and represent the club. I love this team, I love the club and I love what we do, so it’s great to be a part of it. I’m excited about what’s to come.”
