Marvel’s latest trailer confirms a major MCU appearance

Marvel has released the final trailer for The Marvels, confirming that a major character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in the film.

Spoilers for “The Marvels” follow.

The trailer shows footage of characters we already knew would be in the film: Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, Nick Fury and Dar-Benn. But it also shows a glimpse of a character we didn’t know would show up: Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson.

In the trailer, we see Valkyrie giving a pep talk to Captain Marvel: “You can stand tall without standing alone.”

It’s unclear how big a role Valkyrie plays in the film. Is it a cameo appearance? Or perhaps Valkyrie appears in several scenes and helps in the fight against Dar-Benn. Prior to this trailer, there was no indication that The Marvels was a film that incorporated characters from the broader MCU, let alone a Thor-focused character, so Valkyrie’s appearance is something of a surprise.

Meanwhile, Monica Rambeau reveals in the trailer that “another reality is invading our reality.”

But what could this other reality be related to? Fan speculation revolves around the X-Men. We know that Ms. Marvel is a mutant, as revealed by the ending of the Ms. Marvel TV show. Last month, a trailer for The Marvels included the lyrics “What Comes Next.” Except for the letter X, all letters are hidden.
