Last week, Maserati announced plans to launch an EV under the brand name Folgore, which means “lightning bolt” in Italian. One of the first vehicles with that nameplate is the Grecale, a crossover SUV slot underneath the medium-sized Levante.
Maserati masks most of the EV-related specifications, such as range, battery size, and charging time. The electric Grecale comes with a 400 volt architecture. This is similar to what is used on most EVs on today’s roads.
Maserati obscures most EV-related specs
Maserati executives said last week that the Forgore model is on its own EV platform and does not necessarily use the parent company Stellantis’ EV-specific platform. Electric Grequel uses a modified version of the Giorgio platform, which is also used by Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
The Maserati Trident logo is displayed on the front grille, and the Forgoa brand name is displayed on the front wing on the driver’s side. The rear boomerang taillights are inspired by the Giugiaro 3200 GT and fit into the trapezoidal line.
Internally, the infotainment system is powered by Maserati’s intelligent multimedia system. Sonus’ 3D sound system includes 14 speakers, or 21 speakers with higher trim levels.
In addition to the electric version, Maserati will produce two mild hybrid versions of Grecale, the GT and Moderna, and the ultra-powerful Trofeo variant. Trofeo’s gas-powered V6 engine is based on the Nettuno engine used in Maserati’s MC20 sports car.
