Monday marked the start of ratings year 2023 as the major commercial networks launched their prime-time reality shows: MAFS on Nine, Australian Survivor on Channel 10 and Australian Idol on Seven.

But it was MAFS that came out on top in the end, leading the field with nearly 400,000 viewers across the five capitals.

With 840,000 subway numbers, it’s miles ahead of Survivor and Idol.

Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains launched in front of 447,000 viewers, while the Idol reboot drew just 413,000 Tube viewers.

However, those numbers are expected to grow significantly when regional numbers, streaming and seven-day catch-up dates are added.

Despite its easy win, MAFS’ ratings were down compared to its premiere in 2022, which drew a Metro audience of 869,000 viewers.

One of the highlights of the season opener was outspoken bride Melissa Sheppard.

The 41-year-old hairstylist from Sydney was buzzing with excitement as she introduced herself to viewers, describing herself as a bubbly mum who enjoys frolicking in the sheets.

‘I’m so excited! I have a feeling this is going to be a mommy wild night,” Melissa said in the limo on the way to the bachelorette party.

Speaking of her colorful dating history, Melissa said, “I look like the girl next door, but I actually like to think of myself as a little freak in the sheets.”

“I’m not a normal mom. Warning! Warning! I’m sassy, I’m loud and I like to spice things up. I love role playing. Yes, sex is huge to me,” she giggled.

Melissa was then filmed going through her lingerie drawer and presumably packing for her wedding night and honeymoon.

Outside of the hen party, Melissa told the cameras: “I’m so excited for my wedding, I can’t wait! My husband-to-be, enjoy your last night of freedom because you will soon be married to me. That is much!’
