Thousands of demonstrators waved Palestinian flags and demanded that Israel stop its military attack on Gaza. On Saturday they marched through London – while police threatened to arrest anyone showing support for the Hamas terror group.

Protesters carrying signs reading “Free Palestine” and “End the Massacre” began at Oxford Circus near the BBC News headquarters and planned to walk to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s official residence in Downing Street.

The protesters railed against the U.S. and U.K. governments over their support of Israel, even though police had previously warned that anyone with a flag indicating support for Hamas or other terrorist groups would be arrested, the Times of Israel reported.

London’s Metropolitan Police Service said it planned to deploy more than 1,000 officers to the rally.

“I think all righteous people around the world, not just in the UK, must stand up and demand that this madness (end),” Ismail Patel, chairman of the Friends of Al-Aqsa campaign, said at the demonstration .

“Otherwise we could see a catastrophe unfold in the next few days.”

Belal Stitan, a 22-year-old student, said he feared for his relatives in Gaza.

“Nobody in Gaza is OK. My family are all in Gaza and none of them are well,” he told Portal.

“This situation is a big, big problem for humanity and I have to say to the world: remember that we are human… I can’t believe we are here.”

The previous Saturday, the BBC headquarters had been daubed with red paint. A group called Palestine Action claimed responsibility for the incident and condemned the channel’s reporting as a “fabrication of approval for Israel’s war crimes.”

The rally began as Israel stepped up its attack on the Gaza Strip in a bid to destroy Hamas by bombing most areas of Gaza and deploying tens of thousands of troops nearby ahead of an expected ground offensive in the enclave.

The Israeli attack came after Hamas’ surprise attack on October 7, in which hundreds of fighters were sent across the Israeli border, where they took hostages and killed more than 1,300 civilians on the street, in their homes or at a rave party.

In the UK, anyone found guilty of supporting a terrorist organization banned in Britain could face up to 14 years in prison.

Israeli warplane strikes have reduced entire neighborhoods in the Gaza Strip to rubble and sent people to safety. They carried out their attacks as Hamas terrorists threatened to execute a prisoner for every house hit, without warning of an impending bombing by Israel.
