It seems c’s entourage got a craving for some good finger licking fried chicken during their recent visit to Moscow.

Take-away KFC bags were seen being delivered to the luxurious hotel hosting China’s delegation for the leader’s three-day visit.

Russian state media agency Ruptly, part of RT broadcaster, reported that the delegation went to Moscow’s five-star Soluxe Hotel after arriving on Monday.

Upon their arrival, a delivery man brought at least 18 bags of the fast food to the hotel, which was decorated with Russian and Chinese flags.

While the recipients of the groceries were unknown, the outlet pointed out that China’s delegation had just arrived.

Xi held two-day talks with his Russian counterpart in Moscow this week, his first visit since Vladimir Putin unleashed his war on Ukraine in February last year.

KFC is one of the franchises that withdrew from Russia after the invasion. The fast-food company Yum! Brands sold its restaurants to a Russian operator, who is said to have rebranded them as Rostic’s.

Still, according to the footage, the old branding — including the iconic Colonel Sanders logo — was still used and visible on the takeout bags.

Several commentators found it amusing that China’s officials, who have blamed the US for a host of global problems, might have chosen a US fast food chain when visiting Russia.

Analysts have claimed that there are no signs the Chinese President’s visit to Moscow will rein in Putin’s war against Ukraine, although it again highlights a one-sided relationship in which Russia is clearly the junior partner.

Every aspect of the couple’s body language was examined to try to determine the intentions of the two leaders.

With what has been described as a plan to end the conflict, Xi presented himself as a mediator in charge of maintaining stability.

But Putin could only be heartened by Xi’s statements of support and the sheer symbolism of a personal visit, even as Russia faces increasing dependence on China as Moscow becomes more isolated from the West.

The visit comes shortly after the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Putin, the biggest legal challenge the Russian leader has faced.

“Xi’s visit has encouraged Putin, especially after the Hague arrest warrant,” said Liana Fix, fellow for Europe at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

China’s peace plan is “obviously very strongly in Russia’s favour,” she said, adding that Beijing stands ready to “give Moscow time to end the war in its favor,” albeit with implicit support rather than proactive support.

“Putin would certainly have wished for more – especially in a gas deal with China – but the look of the visit was so important to him that he accepted Russia’s increasing dependence on China,” she said.
