Masters Tournament: Top 3 Best Traditional Augusta National Sandwiches

AUGUST | After the traditional Greenwest question of finding even a small blemish on the property, each year’s Tournament of the Masters raises a different question: What’s the best sandwich on the concessions menu?

According to Fall 2020 Champion Dustin Johnson, they’re just as tasty as the others. They’re also his favorite when he arrives in Augusta, so much so that he took part in a humorous culinary capsule from the famous club before defending his title in 2021. He then prepared the pimento cheese according to the traditional recipe.

It’s all a matter of taste. like wine. It is said that tastes are not discussed.

So which one takes first place among traditional eggs, chicken salads, pimento cheese, ham and cheese, classic chicken, Masters Club, chicken biscuits, and “Bar-B-Que” sandwich? with smoked pulled pork?

Tempting, isn’t it? And for between $1.50 and $3 as a bonus!

fierce race

In 2021, Augusta National had launched a novelty that quickly became a hit: the chicken salad bun.

Sacrilege at this 87th edition: a honey bread replaced the delicious brioche. All the same!

But the chicken salad sandwich reigns supreme, closely followed by the delicious “bar-b-que sandwich,” which evokes the flavors of smokehouses in the southern United States. It’s a treat with Crow’s Nest, Augusta National’s signature draft beer.

Next comes the egg sandwich and the ham and cheese sandwich, according to the taste buds of the author of these lines. After 10 days in Augusta, his quick on-the-go snack bar got carried away between two texts earlier in the week.

Chicken classics complete the list in no particular order, while the hideous pimento cheese is relegated to a far last place. Keep in mind here that taste is not discussed as it is still among the favorites of the “chefs” who visit the site.

decadent dessert

Canadian Mackenzie Hughes, however, insists on considering another that’s too quickly forgotten because it’s classified as a dessert.

And he’s absolutely right. Georgia’s decadent peach and ice cream sandwich must be considered a classic.

In fact, he slips easily into the top 3 and flirts with first place. If you think about the criteria, he really enjoys watching the best golfers in the world, especially on warm spring days under the sun.

The dessert is good for finger licking. Sandwiched between two butter biscuits, the peach ice cream literally melts in your mouth.

The problem is that because of the sugar content in it, you have to run the four-mile route twice to eliminate the calories you guzzle.

Hughes is telling the truth: he wins the award, hands down.

According to the judges’ decision, here are the top 3 and the winner of the sandwich’s green jacket:

1o Peach Ice Cream Sandwich from Georgia;

2o chicken salad on bread with honey;

3o “Bar-B-Que Sandwich”.
