We’re all familiar with the “Kate Middleton” effect when it comes to fashion sales, but could this also apply to her own family?
Perhaps it makes sense that Kate’s mother and sisters Carole, 68, and Pippa, 39, are stylish themselves.
What’s more surprising, however, is how often the Middleton women appear in similar outfits.
Were you inspired by the older sister turned princess?
Pretty in pink: Both Kate and Carole wore ME+EM’s £450 pink silk shirt dress
Bright and cheerful: Pippa Middleton was a vision in Mischevani Alais, while Kate looked radiant in Emilia Wickstead
Although the sisters weren’t pregnant at the same time, they shared a love for the maternity look of a green long-sleeved dress
Totally turquoise: The Middleton sisters know how to look stunning in this shade of blue
With an age difference of only one year, Kate and Pippa could almost pass as twins at times, their sense of fashion is so similar.
Pippa arrived at the Abbey in a serene lemon yellow coat dress by Claire Mischevani Alais, reminiscent of Kate’s bespoke yellow Emilia Wickstead dress she wore to the National Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral last year.
The Princess of Wales donned a forest green Catherine Walker outfit for a visit to the Nobel Museum on the first day of her royal visit to Stockholm, Sweden in 2018. At the time, Kate was pregnant with Prince Louis.
Nine months later, Pippa, who was also pregnant, wore a forest green Emilia Wickstead dress and matching hat when she arrived at Windsor Castle for Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.
Even when they weren’t pregnant, the sisters seemed to like something akin to a long-sleeved maternity look.
When Kate visited New Zealand in 2014, she wore a beautiful turquoise dress by local designer Emilia Wickstead.
For the second time on the trip, she paired a coat with a hat by Jane Taylor, a popular milliner, and the Queen’s diamond fern brooch (gifted from the women of Auckland in 1954).
And just a year earlier, Pippa wore a similar Tabitha Webb gown to James Meade’s wedding to Lady Laura Marsham in Gayton, Norfolk. While lace is a chic choice for a wedding, Pippa was careful not to overshadow the bride by wearing a pretty shade of teal.
She completed her outfit with a matching hat adorned with a peacock feather.
Due to their fondness for fur hats, the sisters have again been observed as twins on various occasions
For the Christmas carol service in December last year, Pippa appeared in a burgundy coat almost identical to the one worn by her siblings
Thanks to their penchant for huge fur hats, the sisters were again spotted as twins. On a visit to Oslo, Norway in February 2018, Kate paired her bright blue Catherine Walker coat with a luxury £225 chocolate brown alpaca fur hat from Lacorine.
Kate’s winter accessory was almost identical to the one Pippa wore to the Cheltenham Festival in London in March 2013. Pippa styled the outfit with an £815 mustard yellow Katherine Hooker Tori coat.
At the Princess of Wales’ Christmas carol service last December, Pippa publicly showed her support for her older sister when she arrived at the historic London landmark in a burgundy coat – almost identical to the one worn by her sister.
The mum-of-two was pictured as Kate – who wore an elegant burgundy coat dress for the occasion – in her £409 double-breasted Karen Millen wool piece.
Even Pippa Middleton isn’t immune to the Kate effect, as the new mom is wearing the same dress her older sister wore just a week earlier in 2018
Gorgeous in white: Pippa Middleton wore a cream Emilia Wickstead dress that matched her sister Kate’s white Alexander McQueen dress – the pair also sported similar nude heels
There’s nothing quite like sharing clothes with your sister, and the Middletons know how to do it well.
Pippa Middleton, who became a mother to baby Arthur Matthews in 2018, appeared in a £159 Whistles dress that her older sister wore just a week earlier.
The then-Duchess of Cambridge debuted the burgundy button-down dress when she and Prince William hosted a reception for Radio 1’s Teen Heroes of 2018 at Kensington Palace.
We can understand why both Kate and Pippa fell for his charms. We love the autumnal burgundy shade and of course you can’t go wrong with polka dots.
The tie belt at the waist then ensures a flattering effect and the midi length is super chic.
At Charlotte’s christening in July 2015, the sisters wore almost identical outfits, both wearing similar white dresses and nude pumps.
The then Duchess of Cambridge wore a streamlined dress with a sharp shift silhouette, dramatic reverse neckline and exaggerated lapels by British designer Alexander McQueen to her daughter’s christening.
While Pippa also looked the epitome of chic in an elegant cream dress, she opted instead to wear a creation by rising star designer Emilia Wickstead, paired with heels by Charlotte Olympia.
The love for cobalt blue seems to run in the family as both Kate and Carole have been seen wearing it
For the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in 2020, Kate looked regal in a tailored cobalt blue coat dress by Catherine Walker, a matching Lock & Co hat and blue Rupert Sanderson shoes.
To top it off, the mother-of-three completed the monochromatic look with a sapphire jewelry set that once belonged to Princess Diana.
Kate isn’t the only one in the family who likes cobalt blue. Carole Middleton looked dapper in a cobalt coat dress by Catherine Walker with a matching headband at the coronation of King Charles at Westminster Abbey.
In 2016, Kate chose a £4,000 red and white high-neck Alexander McQueen dress for her first full day of public appearances during a royal tour of Canada.
Carole took inspiration from her daughter’s style book as she stepped out on the ninth day of Wimbledon in a dress that looked remarkably similar to Kate’s Canadian outfit.
Her dress was an adorable £259 blue dress from Rumor London, which also featured a pleated tiered skirt, intricate design and buttons down the front.

In 2018, Carole and Kate were style twins again as they both opted for stunning pale blue dresses just two months apart
Gorgeous blue: The Princess of Wales and her mum looked gorgeous in the same bright blue Reiss dress two years apart
In 2018, Carole and Kate were stylish twins again when Kate donned an adorable light blue Alexander McQueen coat dress to celebrate the RAF’s 100th anniversary in London.
The collarless style and striking notch lapels looked very elegant paired with her hair up, and the cut of the coat dress is both classic and flattering for Kate.
Following a similar style, Carole appeared on Meghan and Harry’s wedding day wearing Catherine Walker, the same label she wore to Kate’s 2011 wedding to William.
The pale blue coat dress was almost identical to Kate’s, with similar lapel and sleeve detailing, as well as the matching floral headpiece.
On a trip to Royal Ascot in 2010, Carole wore a stunning blue button down dress, paired with a chic black clutch bag and completed her look with an intricate side-worn fascinator.
Two years later, on a visit to EACH Treehouse Hospice in Ipswich, Kate wore a bright blue dress with a Reiss black belt that looked exactly like her mother’s.
Middleton’s mother and daughter not only seem to inspire each other with their fashion choices, they also share their clothes.
On the opening day of Royal Ascot in 2022, Carole looked elegant in ME+EM’s silk shirt dress with a dropped midi hem and pleated detailing, the same dress Kate wore to a royal engagement in May 2021.
Carole paired the dress with a black openwork hat with feather trimmings.
Kate, on the other hand, opted for simpler accessories and a face mask when she wore the dress to meet with a five-year-old cancer patient, featured in her Hold Still photography project.
Kate welcomed Mila Sneddon, from Falkirk, to Holyroodhouse for tea after earlier speaking to the youngster, who was undergoing intensive chemotherapy for leukaemia, on the phone.
The mother-of-three had promised the boy she’d wear some pink when they met, and she was true to her word.
