Minister Mathieu Lacombe loses responsibility for Abitibi-Témiscamingue. But the people of the region will still not have their own Council of Ministers, because the MP for Trois-Rivières, Jean Boulet, will take over.
However, Mr Lacombe retains his other duties as Minister for Culture and Communications, Minister for Youth and Minister for Outaouais.
Last fall, several voices in Abitibi-Témiscamingue criticized the fact that no elected official from the region had a place on the Council of Ministers.
However, the CAQ has three elected officials in the region: former minister Pierre Dufour, Daniel Bernard in Rouyn-Noranda-Témiscamingue and Suzanne Blais in Abitibi-Ouest.
The adjustment made by François Legault in his Council of Ministers therefore does not correct this situation, while Jean Boulet, the current Minister of Labor, is MP for Trois-Rivières in Mauricie.
Mr. Boulet is also already in charge of the Mauricie and Nord-du-Québec regions, regions “that present several similar problems to Abitibi-Témiscamingue,” argued François Legault in a press release.
“The regions remain a major priority for our government,” the same statement said.
In his new role, Minister Jean Boulet will be assisted by the MP for Abitibi-Est, Pierre Dufour, who will continue to act as government assistant to the minister responsible for the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region.
