Matthew Perry revealed in his memoir that he underwent ketamine infusion therapy before his death.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner released an autopsy report stating that Perry died from “acute effects of ketamine.”
The popular actor confessed his experiences with the deadly drug and how he used ketamine daily in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

The “Friends” star admitted that he “took ketamine infusions every day.”
“Ketamine was a very popular street drug in the 1980s. Today there is a synthetic form of it and it is used for two reasons: to relieve pain and to treat depression,” he wrote. “It has my name all over it – they might as well have called it 'Matty'.”

Although ketamine “felt like a huge exhale” for Perry, he said it felt like he was “dying.”
“Oh, I thought that’s what happens when you die. Still, I would keep signing up for that crap because it was something different and everything else is good,” he added.

“Taking K is like getting hit in the head with a giant lucky shovel. But the hangover was harsh and outweighed the shovel. Ketamine wasn’t for me.”

Perry died on October 28 after apparently drowning in a hot tub at his home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. He was 54.
“Traces of ketamine were found in the stomach contents,” the autopsy states. “The exact method of ingestion in Mr. Perry’s case is unknown.”

Perry reportedly received “ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety.”
His last known treatment occurred more than a week before his death, but the coroner determined that “the ketamine in his body at the time of death could not have come from this infusion therapy because the half-life of ketamine is 3 to 4 hours or less.” .”

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic with “established medical and surgical uses,” the autopsy said.

There was no suspicion of foul play and no illegal drugs were reportedly found at the scene. Perry was buried November 3 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
