Actor Matthew Perry, who was found dead in his pool in Los Angeles, USA, on October 28, died “accidentally” after consuming ketamine, an autopsy revealed on Friday.
“The cause of death of 54-year-old actor Matthew Langford Perry was the acute effects of ketamine,” the Los Angeles Medical Examiner's Department said of the actor, known for his role as Chandler on the iconic series “Friends.”
“Contributing factors to Perry's death included drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine (used to treat opioid use disorder). The manner of death is accidental,” he explained.
Perry gained his popularity thanks to “Friends”, a series about a group of six friends, also played by Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, which ran for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.
He also starred in films such as The Whole Nine Yards, where he shared the screen with Bruce Willis.
As the actor himself confessed in his book “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing” (2022), he suffered several episodes of drug and alcohol addiction during his role in “Friends”.
His death came as a shock to fans of the series and also to his co-stars, who shared emotional farewell tributes.
That same week, Aniston spoke about her boyfriend in an interview with Variety: “He was happy. He was healthy. He had stopped smoking. He got into shape. He was happy, that’s all I know.”
