Matthew Perry’s former fiancée paid tribute to the late actor, remembering a man who had a “profound influence” on her life.
Molly Hurwitz, who dated Perry from 2018 to 2021, posted a tribute to the “Friends” star on Instagram on Monday.
“He would love for the world to talk about how talented he was,” she began her post. “And he was really, really talented.”
Perry died on Saturday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 54.
Hurwitz, a literary manager to whom Perry proposed in November 2020, wrote that he watched “Friends” with him in anticipation of the cast’s reunion special in 2021.
According to Hurwitz, Perry’s reaction to his previous appearances as Chandler Bing on the series was “F**k, I was so good!!!…See what I did there???”
“We rewound scenes and studied,” she wrote. “Our respect and appreciation for humor bonded us. It was magical being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance.”

She also discussed difficulties during their time together, writing: “But I obviously knew this man in a completely different way.”
“Although I loved him deeper than I could understand, he was complicated and caused pain I had never known,” Hurwitz wrote. “No one in my adult life has had a more profound influence on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I’m very grateful for that, for everything I’ve learned from our relationship.”
She referred to Al-Anon, which supports families of addicts. Perry has been open about his struggles with substance abuse and has been praised by many for his efforts to help others struggling with addiction.
“Matty, I’m relieved you’ve found peace,” she ended her post. “With kind regards, Moll-o-Rama (…fication).”
Perry and Hurwitz ended their engagement in June 2021.
“Sometimes things just don’t work out, and this is one of them,” Perry said in a statement at the time. “I wish Molly all the best.”
Perry’s cause of death is currently under investigation by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
