Matthew Perry’s ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards suspects the “Friends” star may have suffered a relapse in the period leading up to his death.
“I know Matthew and I know he wouldn’t have just drowned,” Edwards told the UK Sun in an interview published on Saturday.
“I think he may have taken some pills the week before.”
The former model claims she briefly dated Perry in 2006 after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
She claims that they remained close even after their affair ended and that she even worked as his assistant in 2011.
On October 28, Perry was found dead, apparently drowning in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home. He was 54.
Although initial toxicology reports came back negative for fentanyl or meth, Edwards says “things don’t add up” when it comes to the details of his death.

“They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me since he didn’t leave any medications lying around,” Edwards said.
As previously reported, no illegal drugs were found on the site of Perry’s Pacific Palisades excavations other than some prescription medications.
“He was paranoid and would take them all, so there was no evidence, and then go out to get more when he was ready.”

Edwards told the outlet that Perry’s last Instagram post contained clues that suggested a possible relapse.
The comedian’s last Instagram post, taken five days before his death, was a snap of him in the hot tub with the caption: “Oh that makes you feel so good with warm water swirling around?” I’m Mattman.”

According to Edwards, Perry’s use of “Mattman” was allegedly an indication that the “Whole Nine Yards” star was again using illegal drugs.
“He didn’t do that Mattman thing when he was sober. “Mattman came out when he wasn’t sober and somehow felt invincible,” Edwards claimed.

“I was there when he was high, even though I wasn’t high with him, and when I said maybe he should cool down with drugs, he said, ‘No, I’m Mattman.'”
Edwards further claimed that Perry had a penchant for being in the water when he drank alcohol or took drugs, claiming that a former neighbor once found him “naked and high in the water.” [neighbor’s] Swimming pool.”
“I had to go over and get him from his neighbor’s pool. He had something to do with water when he did drugs,” she claimed, adding that Perry was allegedly “always alone” when he did drugs.

Edwards previously claimed to have worked as a delivery driver for Perry at the height of his addiction in 2011, and told the Sun in an interview in 2020 that she would get “cocaine, heroin and crack” for the actor while she was in the fifth month pregnant.
“I was like five months pregnant when I went and got things for him. He [would say]”Nobody’s going to stop a pregnant girl. ‘Don’t worry,'” she recalls.

In Perry’s memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the actor detailed his turbulent, decades-long history with drug and alcohol addiction.
The ’90s sitcom star opened up about the good, bad and ugly of his life amid addiction.
“Not only do I have the disease, but it is bad. In fact, I have it as bad as you can have it. It’s all the time to have your back against the wall. It’s going to kill me…”
Perry was buried on November 8 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
