However, it was tough for Sheldon Keefe's men as they found themselves trailing 1-0 with just over five minutes to play. John Tavares, outnumbered, allowed his team to reach extra time by capitalizing on a return shot from defender Morgan Rielly.
Anaheim Ducks goaltender Lukas Dostal certainly had many observers wide-eyed as he stopped 55 shots in his team's loss. He holds the record for most saves in a single game in team history.
Frank Vatrano had previously taken the lead with his 18th goal of the season for the defeated local favorites.
