Three months after recording a controversial podcast episode of The Adam Friedland Show, Matty Healy wants haters to “shake off.”
The 1975 frontman told the New Yorker in an interview published Monday that his February comments “didn’t really matter” and were “a little” bait for naysayers.
“Nobody’s slumped at their computer at night and their friend comes over and says, ‘What’s up, darling?’ and they’re like, ‘It’s just like that with Matty Healy,'” the singer explained. “That does not happen.”
When Healy, 34, later admitted it “might happen,” he described those affected as “blinded” people.

“You’re either lying about being hurt or you’re a little mad about being hurt,” he claimed. “It’s just the people who say, ‘Oh, there’s something bad over there, let me get as close as I can so you can see how good I am.’
“And I want them to do that because they’re demonstrating something so fundamental,” the songwriter continued.
While Healy made headlines for laughing at racist remarks, including comments about rapper Ice Spice, criticism mounted when the podcast aired earlier this month when rumors surfaced that he was dating Taylor Swift.

One of the “Anti-Hero” singer’s fans even launched a #SpeakUpNow campaign, urging Swift to condemn Healy’s statements, with many canceling their orders for the 33-year-old’s “Speak Now” re-release in protest.
“Use your platform responsibly and consciously,” it says Open letter reads, partly. “Commit to inclusivity, celebrate diversity and promote empathy and understanding.”

Swift has yet to comment on the podcast episode, nor has she confirmed her relationship status.

However, the 12-time Grammy winner collaborated with Ice Spice on a “Karma” remix, which the 23-year-old performed during the MetLife Stadium stop on Swift’s Eras Tour over the weekend.
For his part, Healy issued a lukewarm apology in April, telling concertgoers, “I just feel a little bad and I’m a little sorry if I offended you guys. Ice Spice, I’m sorry.”
While discussing Swift on his New Yorker profile, Healy didn’t address the love speculation that surfaced this month following her and Joe Alwyn’s split.
