Maury Povich wants to confirm whether Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are half-brothers or not.
During a recent interview with McConaughey, E! News shared a video message from Povich in which the former “Maury” host told the actor that he was “coming out of retirement” to subject him and Harrelson to DNA testing.
“We could do ‘DNA: Maury’s Back With Woody and Matthew’ in prime time. “I’ll even get my Show Time color back in my hair,” Povich said in the video. “Woody has my number. I’m ready.”
The retired television star, known for his signature line, “You’re not the father,” conducted DNA testing on his eponymous talk show “Maury,” which aired from 1991 to 2022.
McConaughey, who released his debut children’s picture book, “Just Because,” on E! applied. News responded to the clip: “I don’t know if we’re going to ask you to do it on your show, but I like the way you think.”
Earlier this year, McConaughey revealed on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast that he has questioned whether Harrelson is actually related to him.
“In Greece a few years ago we were sitting around talking about how close we are to each other and our families,” McConaughey said. “And my mother is there and says, ‘Woody, I knew your father.’ Everyone was aware of the ellipses my mother left behind after she “knew.” It was a strong KNOW.
While McConaughey believes Harrelson would be more inclined to take a DNA test, he himself is less enthusiastic about the idea.
“It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance and say, ‘Wait a minute, are you telling me that maybe my father isn’t my father after 53 years of believing that?’ McConaughey explained. “I have a little more skin in the game.”
