It appears that goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau is close to joining the Portland Timbers.

According to Athletic journalist Tom Bogert on Friday, the Quebecer will soon sign a contract with this Major League Soccer (MLS) team.

Crépeau, who is currently a free agent, spent the last two seasons with Los Angeles FC. He also contributed significantly to the Californian club's participation in the last two Garber Circuit finals.

The Longueuil native was seriously injured in the last game of 2022 and only took part in seven games last season. However, he performed very well, allowing only two goals along with two shutouts.

LAFC is currently trying to convince legendary French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to join their team.

Crépeau began his career with CF Montreal and then played for the Vancouver Whitecaps. In 2021, LAFC acquired him from the British Columbia club for a general allocation amount of $1 million, making him the most expensive goalkeeper in the MLS to change address.

If he moves to the Timbers, Crépeau will share the locker room with goaltender James Pantemis. The latter has just signed a two-year contract with the Portland team.
