Mayim Bialik will no longer be involved in Jeopardy.
The Big Bang Theory alum posted on her verified social media account on Friday that Jeopardy producers Sony Pictures Television had informed her that she “will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy.”
Bialik – and co-host Ken Jennings – were both nominated for the Daytime Emmys for taking turns at the lectern vacated by the death of the beloved Alex Trebek. Last year, Sony tapped Bialik and Jennings to split hosting duties on the long-running syndicated game show, ending a months-long period in which the series went through a chaotic transition that saw now-former showrunner Mike Richards step in for the hosting role after a year of running the series Guest judges. He was fired a week later after many media outlets, including , reported on the previous discrimination lawsuits he was involved in during his time as an executive producer on The Price Is Right. Other reports concerned the crude and offensive jokes he made during a short-lived podcast he hosted from 2013 to 2014. Richards filmed Jeopardy one day – for a week! episodes – before he stepped down as presenter. Sony fired him as showrunner shortly afterwards.
Michael Davies took over as showrunner last year when Sony announced that Jennings and Bialik would share hosting duties. It's unclear whether Bialik, who previously hosted the primetime specials “Celebrity Jeopardy” and the College Championships, will remain involved as a host for any of the franchise's spinoffs.
Representatives for producer Sony TV did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment. This story will be updated when it does.
