Christian Mbilli not only defeated Carlos Gongora in spectacular fashion on Thursday night at the Casino de Montréal, but also sent a strong message to the boxing world.

The Eye of the Tiger management protégé, who won via unanimous judges’ decision (97-93, 98-92, 99-91), showed all his courage in this fight against the dangerous Gongora (21-2, 16K .- O.), also deserved.

We wouldn’t be surprised if this duel between Mbilli and Gongora was in the running for Fight of the Year. The eighth round was particularly emotional when Mbilli was initially shaken. It felt like he was about to hit the mat, but he summoned up his resources to then deliver some solid punches to Gongora.
Mbilli enjoyed the win and retained his WBC Continental Americas and WBA International belts.
