McDonald’s is reviving Sichuan sauce

Hand holding Sichuan sauce

October 7, 2017 was a wild day. It was the day McDonald’s released a super-limited Sichuan dip sauce in response to the popular anime TV show Rick and Morty. The animated show briefly mentioned the source in its plot, and in a cheeky reaction, McDonald’s sent the show’s creator a 4-pound bottle. McDonald’s hinted that there would be a bigger release.

Eventually, the fast food chain released Sichuan’s dip sauce on the fateful weekend of October 2017, but the amount was so small that the place to carry things sold out quickly. This devastated the scores of enthusiastic Rick and Morty fans. Finally, there is a widespread re-release of the source for us for the rest (we gave B), and from March 31st McDonald’s has given it another short run. However, Yahoo reports that there are minor issues.

How to get McDonald’s Sichuan sauce

As you can imagine, the problem is that after March 31st, you can only order sources using the McDonald’s mobile app. Order ChickenMcNuggets and you’ll get the sauce for free. Also, if you’re looking for inventory, order up to 5 containers a la carte.

The first release of a vaguely ginger and sweet soy sauce-based sauce (I know, it’s complicated) was made in 1998 as a cross-promotion of the Disney movie Mulan. Most often, it’s a good sauce, salty and sweet, but many Sichuan dishes do not completely encapsulate the spicy, numbing sensation that is represented by its characteristic mala flavor. And if you miss it, it’s definitely not worth the upset.

With my money, that was the source of BTS last summer. Sweet chili sauce and Cajun sauce were more focused than the vague connection to the movie and packed with a lot of real flavors. This Sichuan sauce seems to be quite short, so if you are interested, please do so as soon as possible.
